There is little I crave more than a dessert that is the combination of sweet and salty. A bite that is both salty and sweet is quite literally a tastebud party and there's even scientific explanation behind it! This recipe for Gooey Fudge Brownies with Pink Himalayan Salt definitely hits the sweet and salty spot. They combine rich, decadent dark chocolate with the perfect relief of saltiness making this dessert very lovely balanced and quite the crowd pleaser!

I have always preferred my brownies to be more fudgy than cakey. From my perspective, the gooeyness of warm fudgy brownies is absolute heaven! Making these both dairy-free and gluten-free was simple. I just substituted dairy-free margarine for the more traditional butter and used a gluten-free baking flour in place of all-purpose flour. The substitutions still resulted in incredibly delicious brownies that my whole family loves!

Who would have thought Himalayan Pink Salt could have such a place in desserts! This was the first time I made something sweet with this salt, but I can't wait to find more ways to utilize it in my baking! Himalayan Pink Salt is one of the purest salts available today since it is hand-mined miles beneath the Himalayan Mountains! Pink Himalayan Salt is known for its high mineral content and there are claims that the salt has respiratory benefits, aids in digestion and is a natural sleep aid. Gooey Fudge Brownies with Himalayan Pink Salt (Gluten- & Dairy-Free)
yield: 16 brownies


1 1/2 sticks dairy-free margarine (3/4 cup) (just substitute butter if you don't care to make them dairy-free)
2 oz unsweetened baker's chocolate
2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup gluten-free all-purpose baking flour (just substitute all-purpose flour if you don't care to make them gluten-free)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp espresso powder (it really highlights the chocolate)
1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 tsp Kosher salt
Gourmet Nut Himalayan Pink Salt


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare 9 x 9 " baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease.
2. Mix margarine and baker's chocolate in non-stick saucepan until melted and combined.
3. Remove mixture from heat and mix in sugar.
4. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature then whisk in eggs, flour, cocoa, espresso powder, vanilla extract and Kosher salt until well combined.
5. Pour mixture into prepared baking pan then grind some Himalayan Pink Salt on top.
6. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick just comes out with a crumb or two.
7. Allow to cool then finish with a touch more Himalayan Pink Salt to your taste!
