Work Comfort

Last weekend marked a change for our family as I went back to work.  Returning to work means Brian is now on his own with Bennett for the majority of the weekend and our routine is now different.
This was a change we had originally planned on taking place months ago, but we ended up making the decision to dip into savings and extend my maternity leave.  Deciding not to return to work was a little terrifying at first but looking back now I am so pleased with our decision.  I couldn't be more thankful to have been home with Bennett during those first incredible 9 months of his life.

I am also beyond grateful to have a profession in which I can have a flexible work schedule, although the notion of only returning to work part-time did not sit well with me at first.  I have spent so much time and money on my education that I felt guilty not being able to utilize my education and investment by practicing full-time.  But working last weekend did assuage my anxiety about the decision.  I missed my baby every second, and it made me feel so thankful that I am able to be with Bennett during the week.

Returning to work was the inspiration for this post since I have been on the hunt lately for sophisticated yet comfortable workwear.  When I'm seeing patients I am constantly getting up, sitting down and semi-sprinting around the office; so when putting together outfits, comfort always comes first.

This swing dress from Old Navy combines comfort with poshness.  It's the kind of dress you just want to twirl in but is professional for the workplace.  I paired it with with a skinny white belt, a comfortable pair of pointed toe flats and a structured bag.  Although I was nervous about returning to the exam room, I was also excited to put on a dress, apply some makeup and feel like a professional woman again.  This dress immediately put a smile on my face and just made me feel good.

The anxiety about returning to work dissipated quickly after seeing my first patient.  It felt so great to be able to converse with adults, and I loved talking to my patients about Bennett.  Everyone was so nice, and it felt amazing to get back to practicing a skill that I had put so much effort into learning and have always loved.

The best part about this dress is that it is only $36!!  Doesn't it look so much more expensive?!  It is the perfect day to night piece.  The best part of the day was getting off work to meet Brian and Bennett in Coolidge Corner for dinner.  This dress also makes the perfect transitional piece for Fall and would look so cute paired with these black booties!

Thank you guys so much for visiting and reading this post!  You have no idea how much it means to me, and I hope you all have a wonderful week!  As always, I have linked everything from this post, and you can shop it below:
