Cocktail Hour- Sparkling Lavender Martini

To celebrate my birth-eve,  I decided to make a cocktail that contained all my favorite things: a little lavender, a little ginger, some elderflower liqueur and bubbles.  And it tasted as pretty as it looked!

Lavender is by far my favorite herb (if you follow my blog you might have caught onto that from this post, this post and this post). The elderflower essence somehow highlighted the lavender flavor, and the subtle background spice from some ginger syrup and effervescence from the sparkling lavender soda just put it over the top.

It is super easy to make and even opened me up to a new addition for my bar, lavender bitters (otherwise known as my dream come true)!

Sparkling Lavender Martini (recipe makes 1 cocktail)

Ginger Simple Syrup
4 oz Ginger root, peeled and cut into rounds
1 cup Water
1 cup Sugar

3 oz Gin (I love and stock Hendrick's, but a floral gin would work really well)
1 dash Lavender Bitters
1/4 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
1/4 oz Ginger Simple Syrup
Sparkling Lavender Soda (I found some at our grocery store)
Dried Lavender for garnish (if desired)

1.  To make ginger simple syrup, combine water and sugar on medium heat stirring until sugar is dissolved.  Remove from heat, add ginger and allow to cool to room temperature (simple syrup can be stored in airtight container in refrigerator for 1 month)

2.  Add gin, bitters, elderflower liqueur and ginger simple syrup in shaker with ice

3.  Shake vigorously and pour into martini glasses

4.  Top with sparkling lavender soda

5.  Garnish with dried lavender and pretty edible flowers
