Cocktail Hour- Basil Gimlet

Another week down and another cocktail recipe up!!.

I honestly didn't think I liked Gimlets until I tried one with basil simple syrup!  As I mentioned in this post, I really love a fresh herb element in my cocktails, especially in the springtime.  As a result, I have about 5 tupperware in my fridge full of simple syrups infused with various herbs.

Herb infused simple syrups are so great to have on hand to add a little pizzazz to your cocktail.  In the case of this drink, I just substituted the normal simple syrup traditionally found in a gimlet with a basil infused simple syrup.  I'll probably end up trying a gimlet with the mint and sage simple syrups that are stored in my fridge as well!  Simple syrups stay good sealed in your fridge up to a month!

Basil Gimlet (Recipe makes 2 cocktails)

Basil Simple Syrup:
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Granulated sugar
1 Cup Fresh basil

Basil simple syrup
Fresh lime juice

1.  To make simple syrup, bring water and sugar to boil on medium-high heat stirring while allowing sugar to dissolve. Remove from heat and add fresh basil.  Let stand for at least 30 minutes then strain.

2.  Fill 2 tumblers with ice.  Add 4 Tbsp gin, 4 Tbsp basil simple syrup and 2 Tbsp fresh lime juice to each glass.

3.  Stir and serve garnished with basil leaves.

Hope you guys love it!!  Have a wonderful weekend!
